Aging in Place

Location: Chestnut Hill

Our clients in Chestnut Hill purchased a home with the intention of aging in place. The house featured beautiful details including a dramatic sloped wood ceiling, skylights and wood framed windows. However the home needed significant updates to its 1980s finishes and built-in kitchen.

We opened up the kitchen and dining areas to make them more expansive, allow light throughout the day and improve the flow of circulation. The challenge was fitting a spacious and accessible primary bath and laundry room within a narrow warren of 45-degree hallways. Our goal was to create a space that was visually clean, high-contrast, and beautiful while remaining highly functional.

Using the same tile throughout the kitchen and primary bath makes the design feel consistent and unified. A custom pantry made of quartersawn red oak, featuring an appliance garage, keeps the countertops clear while providing extra storage.
